Most Beautiful Neighborhoods Of Paris You Should Explore

Finding the best place to stay in Paris for the first time can be confusing. The capital of France is a big city and it will not be possible to walk everywhere. You need to be careful when choosing a place to stay, otherwise you will have to travel for a long time.

Going to the city for the first time? Then check out my full guide for the perfect 4 days in Paris. It covers the must-sees, including important tips on crossing the lines.

Paris is located on the river Seine, which divides the city into two parts – Rive Droite and Rive Gauche. Rive Droite (South Bank) refers to the area north of the river. This is where you can find the Louvre, Champs-Élysées, Montmartre, just to name a few. The Rive Gauche (Left Bank) is located south of the Seine. It is home to the Eiffel Tower, Musee d’Orsay, Rodin Museum and more.

Additionally, Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements. Arrondissement is the French equivalent of district. The numbers 1 to 20 in a circle around the Louvre on the right.

According to the law, the first guests are recommended to stay in one number. These communities are multi-centered, accessible, well-connected and generally safe.

You can easily find out where your hotel is located by looking at its location. For example in “218 rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris”, the last two digits of the postal code 75001 refer to the arrondissement number. The smaller the number, the larger the average neighborhood.

My best advice is to stay within a short walk of the metro station, no matter which area you choose. It will save you a lot of travel time. Also, Paris has the best metro system. This is good because even if you are close to the Louvre, you will still have to use the metro to get to some of the attractions.

Another important tip is to book in advance (at least 3-4 months). Don’t wait until the last part because it will be very difficult to find good and cheap accommodation.

Best Areas To Stay In Paris

Also, in general, hotel rooms in Paris are very small (even if you book a suite) and expensive. The bathrooms are even smaller. So, plan well in advance and have reasonable expectations.

Avoid staying in areas close to train stations, especially Gare du Nord (however convenient it may seem). The area around Gare du Nord is not pleasant and not very safe.

I have been to Paris several times, in many places. And I can honestly say that the best area for me is the Left Bank of the Seine opposite the Louvre district.

You will be far away from many iconic symbols. In addition, the location is very important in walking distance to RER C (Versailles) and metro line 12 (Sacré-Cœur).

Best Things To Do In Paris, France

My favorite place to stay in Paris is the Hôtel & Spa de Latour Maubourg. The location is close to the Eiffel Tower, next to the metro station and close to the RER C (to Versailles). The rooms are charming and spacious (a rarity for Paris).

I recommend staying in this area if you are visiting Paris for sightseeing. It is very good, safe and central (according to the first place) but the hotel prices are cheaper.

Looking for the best hotel in the city center? Then visit the Hotel Saint Petersbourg Opera – one of the most popular hotels in Paris, as well as a very important place to visit.

The hotel has a great location, just a short walk from the Opera Garnier and several metro stations. Walking distance to the Louvre Museum, Champs-Elysées and Galeries Lafayette. The rooms are modern, spacious and quiet with comfortable beds.

Hands Down, This Is Where To Stay In Paris

The Louvre and Bourse areas are the best places to stay in Paris for first-time visitors. These are the largest cities in the city. You will be within walking distance of many historical sites, cruise ships and many restaurants.

The Louvre district (1st arrondissement) is where you will find the city’s most famous sights. Notre Dame Cathedral, Louvre Museum and Place Vendôme are only a short walk away.

The Bourse district (2nd arrondissement) is north of the 1st arrondissement. It is a great place for food, shopping and dining.

If you are looking for the most central area, there is no better place to stay than the 1st and 2nd arrondissements.

Also, this is the best place if you want to stay in Paris during winter. The most popular Christmas markets are located at the Hôtel de Ville, Tuileries Garden and Notre-Dame Cathedral. Don’t miss Galeries Lafayette and Le Bon Marché’s Christmas decorations!

Don’t forget to buy a skip-the-line ticket to the Louvre museum (long queues even in low season).

Remember that accommodation in this area is very expensive. So, if you are on a budget, see the next section on where to stay for 3 nights in Paris (also for the average, but cheaper hotel).

Today, spacious, just a stone’s throw from the Louvre and the metro station. The kitchen is beautiful and comfortable.

3-4 nights is a good time in Paris to explore the city. If you can afford it, I recommend staying in the 1st or 2nd arrondissement. However, you should remember that the accommodation is very expensive because these are two central places.

So, for a cheaper, but still, central location, close to tourist attractions, look to the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th arrondissements. This area is next to the river Seine in walking distance to many tourist attractions. However, you will have to use the metro to visit some sights, but this cannot be avoided in a big city.

The Marais is one of the most charming districts in Paris. It is an area full of new shops, vintage shops and cobblestone streets, lined with small cafes. The most popular places are Place des Vosges, Notre-Dame Cathedral and Hôtel de Ville.

Saint Germain-des-Prés is a classic Parisian town. On the left bank of the Seine, opposite the Louvre, it has a bad location. The arrondissement is full of art galleries, antique shops and charming sidewalk cafes. Here you can see the icon

The Latin Quarter is the center of the city known for its culture and history. If you are an architecture lover, this is the place to be. Here you will find some of the most famous places in the city, including the Pantheon and Shakespeare & Company.

Of the three locations, I found the Latin Quarter to be the best choice for location and price. It is cheaper than Saint Germain-des-Prés and has more hotels than the Marais.

Select Hotel combines classic architecture and modern design in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Walking distance to Notre-Dame and Louvre Museum. Nice rooms with big beds.
