Place a live trap near one of the entrances to the gopher’s burrow and place bait inside it, such as carrots or celery sticks with peanut butter. Check the trap twice a day, and if you catch a gopher, work with local authorities to relocate the gopher to a suitable environment. Another option is to use repellents to repel them from your lawn. Start by placing castor oil tablets, peppermint oil or fabric softener sheets in holes near your home. Wait for 1-2 days, then put some more repellents a little further apart in some grooves. Repeat the process until you have added repellent to the outer grooves. If natural methods do not work, a gopher poison containing zinc phosphide can be used to kill gophers. Keep fruit in its slots out of reach of children and pets. Try planting natural gopher repellants like lavender, rosemary, strawberries and peppermint to keep them from returning.
