Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a brain hormone that triggers ovulation. Ovulation usually occurs 24 to 36 hours after the LH surge. If you use an LH test strip to monitor your basal body temperature, ovulation has occurred. However, once the eggs are released, they remain viable for 24 hours only if they are not fertilized.

On average, women have about 24 hours a month, maybe 36 hours. That’s right, one day a month.
