If you go to Craigslist looking for a “casual encounter”, you won’t find it. The online classifieds site abruptly shut down its details section on Friday after Congress passed legislation designed to hold sites like Craigslist accountable for aiding the sex trade in the US.

Now, when visitors click on each of the individual subcategories, Craigslist displays a brief message that points to the language of the bill, the Combating Online Sex Trafficking Act of 2017, or FOSTA.

We Applied To Dozens Of Craigslist Sf Rental Scams. Here’s What Happened

The statement read in part, “Any tool or service can be abused. We cannot take such a risk without putting all our other services at risk, so unfortunately we are taking Craigslist personal information offline . I hope we can bring it back one day.”

FOSTA is the House version of the bill that would restrict online services that promote or facilitate prostitution. FOSTA passed the House by a vote of 388-25 in February.

Organizations such as World Without Exploitation and individuals such as Ivanka Trump and US senators argue that the current law does not go far enough to hold websites more accountable for their role in providing a platform to promote activities. such as prostitution.

Technology and civil liberties groups opposed the law. The American Civil Liberties Union argued that the bill would make sex workers more vulnerable to exploitation by moving them to the so-called dark web.

The Electronic Front Foundation, a group that promotes freedom of expression on the Internet, also claims that it can have a chilling effect on freedom of expression.

No. Reddit has also tightened its rules to prohibit people from using the site as a marketplace to sell and buy things like weapons, ammunition, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, prostitution, stolen goods, personal information.

The passage of the bill drew a lot of reactions from those who supported the law and others who opposed it.

Supporters like Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-San Francisco, called it a good step to prevent sites from “profiting and encouraging sex trafficking on their platforms with impunity.”

Opponents such as the EFF warn that the bill is excessive and could affect free speech. In a tweet, he said “this is what internet censorship looks like.” They say Texas is a whole ‘nother country’, and has a size as large as France and Switzerland combined (as well as a population of over 29 million). Only Alaska is larger geographically. For those looking for a new project car, this can be good or bad, depending on where you are. There are a lot of cars in Texas, and they are in no rush to leave town. That’s because Texas is the fossil fuel capital of the country, and Texans love their cars.

We recently did a deep dive into all the major Craigslist sites in Texas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso. We set out to find the 10 best car deals for $5,000 and under, with a loose year range between 1960 and 1985. We did a similar search a few weeks ago for sites on Craigslist in California and found a lot of cool junk here, so we thought, what about Texas?

It turns out that Texas, even though it’s bigger than California, has quite a few cool cars that we like to find in rust-free condition. However, not everyone can take off work for a week and fly to the West Coast for something like this. Sometimes you have to make do with what you’ve got (ie, Gulf Coast rust); You could do a lot worse than the Lone Star State, with most of the western half in a sheltered, dry environment similar to California.

However, one thing that seems universal to all Craigslist sites is that the low cost of posting results in a lot of questionable ads with bad pictures, little information, and secret information. to contact. Even among dealers on the up and up, there’s a lack of hard facts—the kind you’d have to spend all day inspecting a car for. This is a lesson for sellers that if you really want to sell for the maximum amount, it pays to put higher quality/more photos and more details in the ad – or risk everyone’s disappointment. See what Texas has to offer the week of January 21, 2021! (Don’t forget to check out all the other photos in the gallery too.)

Cisco, Texas is the birthplace of this Givenchy Edition of the Lincoln Mark IV, and you can bet it spent most of its 91,000 miles cruising down I-20 in air-conditioned comfort. These 1980s luxury yachts are under the spotlight, and if you can find one in decent condition at a good price, now is the time to buy. It takes a little work to get up and running, but we encourage outside the box. Our biggest concern wasn’t really the drivetrain (302ci / AOD driveline combos are a dime a dozen), but the broken driver’s side turn signal lens was very difficult to replace regardless of the price of the part. (See the ad here.)

We like the farm look, and this self-described (Smithville, TX) looks the part with a well-used patina. What put it on our radar was the X-body architecture (similar to the Chevy Nova). It runs but forget the born 3.8L Bioick V-6 – go with a cheap small-block Chevy, add a Holley Sniper nitrous kit, swap out the rolling stock, and you’re in for a show. Almost every part of the Camaro/Nova suspension bolts right on. If you look at the grill and lights high enough, you can see the face of a 1972 Malibu. (See the ad here.)

We’re on the fence about this one (El Paso), but because of its ultra-sexy shape we probably recommend it from a different standpoint. If the interior hadn’t been beaten up too much and if the back of the fuel tank filler neck area hadn’t been damaged, it would have been a slam dunk. We love the big Buick 430ci mill, the sweet styling, and the straight metal (except for the rear bumper) on this big, beautiful lady. When you get the deal price down to $1,000 or even $1,200, pull the trigger. (See the ad here.)

Located in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area, but listed on Craigslist in El Paso for its large market, this pillar-type A-GM body always gets our blood pumping. Chevy made millions of them a day, and many parts are still plentiful because they share the cars with many other cars. It needs a better driver’s side bumper, and there’s some nasty rust under the vinyl top, but everything looks current and familiar. These vehicles are still very common, so you can get one (or another like it) for under $2K. (See the ad here.)

When Ford updated the Thunderbird for 1964, it had the unfortunate distinction of debuting a few months before the groundbreaking Mustang, with which it shared much of its styling vocabulary. Make no mistake, this T-bird (El Paso) is loaded with quality luxury touches that are rarely seen on cars at this price point. Handed down in our opinion (an opinion not shared by the market), the 1964-66 T-bird was a lot of fun for the dollar. With its design and interior largely intact, aside from a little torn upholstery, this West Texas project has potential. (See the ad here.)

If you’re a Mopar guy and you’re on a tight budget, then the A-Body compact is your car of choice. If so, the 1975 Dodge Dart Sport (Pacos, TX) might just be your lucky number. The seller goes into great detail and describes some minor issues that the guys wouldn’t find bothersome (gauges don’t work, bumper ding), but no blemishes on the upholstery. Forget the color of baby poop; Buy it now or consider bidding if there is competition. (See the ad here.)

The Mercury Comet is a sibling of the Ford Falcon and an older cousin of the Mustang, meaning that the key mechanical parts (engines, trans, drivetrain, suspension, brakes) are common – except for model-specific trim and cans. If you don’t mind driving a four-door (it’s becoming more and more popular by the day), then this wonderfully dated 1965 Comet Caliente (Pleasanton, TX) might be for you. It is truly the quintessential old lady’s car, and there is not a single scratch or dent on it. A patina like this is to die for so if you get it, for Pete’s sake, don’t paint! (See the ad here.)

We’re back on the GM A-body bandwagon with the 1975 Olds Cutlass. Like the 1976 Chevrolet Malibu listed above, it has an unrealistically high price tag, but maybe that’s our fault for cramming these cars into readers’ heads for the past 10 years. The interior is painted (forget looking for any Olds brightwork for the 73-77 models) and the repaint doesn’t do much to hide the body’s past sins, but it’s one of the doggiest body styles of the 1970s, and for old jurors.
