Dallas Craigslist Cars For Sale By Owner

Dallas Craigslist Cars For Sale By Owner – They say that Texas is a completely different country, and at the size of France and Switzerland combined (also over 29 million people), only Alaska is geographically larger. For those looking for a new project car, this could be a good or bad thing, depending on where you are. There are a lot of cars in Texas, and they’re in no rush to get out of town. That’s because Texas is the fossil fuel capital of the country, and Texans love their cars.

We recently took a deep dive into all of the best Craigslist locations in Texas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso. Our goal was to find the top 10 deals on project cars for $5,000 or less for the years 1960 to 1985. We did the same search two weeks ago on California Craigslist sites here and found a lot of legal junk. We thought, what about Texas?

It turns out that Texas, despite being bigger than California, has fewer nice cars than we’d like to find in rust-free condition. However, not everyone can just quit work for a week and head to the West Coast for something like this. Sometimes you have to work with what you’ve got (ie Gulf Coast Rust); You could do worse than the Lone Star State, where much of the western half is exposed to a dry and sheltered environment like California’s.

However, one thing that seems to be universal across all Craigslist sites is that the low cost of postage creates a lot of questionable ads with bad photos, little information, and cryptic contact information. Even as salespeople grow, there’s no shortage of hard facts—like spending an entire day inspecting a car. This is a lesson for sellers that if you really want to sell for maximum value, it pays to include higher quality/quantity photos and more details in your ad – or risk disappointing everyone. Let’s see what Texas has to offer on Sunday, January 21, 2021! (Don’t forget to check out all the additional photos in the gallery, too.)

Cisco, Texas is where this Givenchy Edition Lincoln Mark IV hails from, and you can bet it spent most of its 91,000 miles on Interstate I-20 in air-conditioned comfort. These luxury boats from the early 1980s have been reduced in value and if you can find one intact at a good price, now is the time to buy it. This one needs some work to make it work, but we’re encouraged by the correct sheet metal. Our biggest concern isn’t really idle (302ci/AOD driveline combos are a dime a dozen), but a broken driver’s side turn lens would be very difficult to replace, regardless of the cost of the part. (See ad here.)

We love field finds, and this self-described (Smithville, Texas) one looks the part with a well-weathered patina. What puts it on our radar is the X-body architecture (same as the Chevy Nova). It runs, but forget the 3.8-liter Buick V-6 born with it—go with a cheap small-block Chevy, add a Holley Sniper nitrous kit, change the suspension, and go to the sideshow. Almost any undercarriage will fit on the Camaro/Nova. If you look long enough at the grille and headlights, you’ll see the face of a 1972 Malibu. (See ad here.)

We’re on the fence about this one (El Paso), but because of its ultra-sexy shape, we’re inclined to recommend it from a non-discrepancy perspective. If the cabin hadn’t been compacted so well and the rear wouldn’t have hit the neck of the gas tank, it would have been a slam dunk. We like the big Buick 430ci mill, sweet styling, and straight sheet metal (except for the rear bumper) on this big beautiful girl. If you can lower the transaction price to $1,000 or even $1,200, click the trigger. (See ad here.)

Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but listed on El Paso’s Craigslist for its larger market, this Colonnade-style GM body will always get our blood pumping. Chevy made millions of them back in the day, and many parts are still in abundance due to the fact that they share mechanics with so many other cars. It needs a better flywheel on the driver’s side and there is a lot of rust under the vinyl top, but everything else is accounted for. These cars are still relatively common, so it’s possible to get one (or one like it) for under $2,000. (See ad here.)

When Ford updated the Thunderbird in 1964, it had the unfortunate distinction of debuting a few months before the groundbreaking Mustang, with which it shared much of its styling vocabulary. Make no mistake, this T-bird (El Paso) is packed with quality luxury touches you’ll never see in a car at this price point. Underrated in our opinion (an opinion not shared by the market), the 1964-66 T-bird is a lot of fun for the dollar. This run-of-the-mill West Texas project has potential as its trim and interior are largely intact except for a slightly torn upholstery. (See ad here.)

If you’re a Mopar person on a budget, the compact A-Body is your ideal vehicle. If so, this 1975 Dodge Dart Sport (Pecos, Texas) could be your lucky number. The seller does a good job detailing a few minor issues that the car guys don’t see as issues (gauges don’t work, fenders ding), but not even a blemish on the shirt. Forget baby poop ink; Buy now or consider bidding above the asking price if there is competition. (See ad here.)

The Mercury Comet was a sibling to the Ford Falcon and an older cousin to the Mustang, meaning that the major mechanical parts (engines, transmission, transmission, suspension, brakes) were widely available – model-specific trim and sheet metal. If you don’t mind driving a four-door (they’re becoming more popular by the day), then this wonderfully aged 1965 Cometa Caliente (Pleasanton, TX) might be the one for you. This is definitely your typical old car with literally no scratches or dents on it. That kind of patina is deadly, so if you hear it, for crying out loud, don’t paint it! (See ad here.)

Is This Original Players Challenge?

We’re back with a 1975 Olds Cutlass with GM A-body colonnades. Like the 1976 Chevy Malibu listed above, it’s an unrealistically high price, but that’s probably our fault for putting these cars in our readers’ minds in the bottom 10. years. The interior has been redone (forget about finding any glossy work of the old for the 73-77 models) and the repaint doesn’t hide the sins of the past very well, but it’s one of the most disturbing 1970s and deadly body styles. Difficult old man, this could be your lucky day. (See ad here.)

Full-size deluxe models from the 1960s aren’t priced the same as mid-size models or even compacts from the same era, which is odd considering their original sticker prices. However, it is understandable given their complexity, limited number, special decoration parts and relatively low performance. That said, we’ve seen similar cars like Matt Delaney’s ’67 Imperial restored to perfection, so we’re hopeful. The Chrysler 300 convertible north of Waco has most of its trim and interior intact, and the rust appears to be limited to a few patch panels. Since good 383 Wedge/727 Torqueflite cores are only $1500, dive into this awesome C-Body. (See ad here.)

Everyone loves a Mustang, and this one from Hutto, Texas seems to be a great starting point for those familiar with these ponies. The seller has done a lot of work, stripped it down and found a modest amount of rot that has occurred, so you won’t be buying a pig here, but there is work to be done. We love that she did the research and made it clear in the ad, which you can see here. A well-designed 289 Mustang is getting harder and harder to find, so we don’t think demand is terribly high, but the lack of a headline might give it some negotiating room. Performs buyer, seller and payment verification, so you are assured of a seamless and secure transaction. Get the best bang for your buck by buying a private car without risking the safety of Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
