Food To Eat When Pregnant And Nauseous – If you suffer from morning sickness, you know how difficult it can be. 🙁 I’m sure you’ve tried everything to get relief. I have had many clients and friends asking me for tips and tricks on how to survive and treat morning sickness, so I wanted to share my list of things that might help. Hopefully you haven’t tried all of my suggestions and are finding new things that will get you back to feeling good. Here are my 22 ways to beat morning sickness:
Being on an empty stomach can make your nausea worse. Eating little and often helps balance your blood sugar levels, which is what you need. Try to eat up to six small meals a day instead of three large meals. Think about small amounts but often. Some women find that carbohydrates are very appealing when they feel nauseous. Whatever you decide to eat, make sure you eat it slowly.

If you feel nauseous or dizzy, rest and put your feet up. Nausea can be worse if you are stressed and tired, so give yourself time to rest and take naps when you can. You become human, after all!
Tips For Dealing With Morning Sickness
NOTE: You don’t want to sleep just after eating something. This can cause things to back up, especially if you sleep on your left side. Sleeping on the left side slows digestion. Try to sit, but if you need to bend over because you don’t feel well, lean back slightly on a well-supported chair, sofa or bed.
Sitting on the bed for a few minutes instead of jumping straight out of bed can also help.
Keep food everywhere during the day, such as bedroom, car, office and so on. This helps remind you to eat less throughout the day. You will find food or drink that relieves nausea. Snacks like crackers or toasted nuts, while drinks like flat Coke, 7UP or seltzer with a slice of lemon, lime or orange are said to help. Just make sure you have soft snacks available to eat. I also recommend keeping biscuits by your bed. When you first wake up, eat some crackers and rest for 20 minutes before waking up. Eating crackers can help you feel better if you wake up feeling nauseous in the middle of the night.
How To Survive Morning Sickness
It has been shown in studies that light foods, foods rich in protein, and rich in vitamin B, such as nuts, can really help relieve morning sickness/nausea.
Obviously these are the types of foods that can irritate the digestive system and take a long time to digest. Stick to bland foods and stay away from spicy, fried and acidic foods.
Food tends to have a strong smell when it’s hot, and these smells can lead to nausea when cooking. I recommend that you stick to cold meals or meals at room temperature until your morning sickness goes away.
If almost everything seems painful to you, it’s good to eat a few things that appeal to you in this part of your pregnancy, even if it doesn’t make for a perfectly balanced diet.
The Best Foods To Relieve Nausea
Aim to drink about one and a half liters (48 oz) each day. Having bottles or jars on hand throughout the home is smart, and serves as a reminder and relief.
If you’ve been vomiting a lot, try a sports drink with glucose, salt and potassium to replace lost electrolytes. I just don’t want you to forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day, because staying hydrated during pregnancy is important.
If you find it difficult to keep fluids down, limit the amount you drink while eating. You can find cold drinks, carbonated drinks are easy to store. Try ginger beer, Sprite, 7 UP or soda. Some women find acidic drinks, such as lemonade, easier to handle.
Drinking tea is also a good way to help with nausea. I recommend you try Earth Mama Angel Baby’s Morning Wellness Tea and/or Yogi’s Ginger Tea. You can also add lemon slices to iced water or sparkling water and sip when you can.
Pregnancy Foods For Women Who Suffer From Nausea
You don’t want to drink so much that your stomach feels full. A good strategy is to drink fluids throughout the day. Try using a straw if sips don’t go well.
A warm or stuffy room, the smell of heavy incense, riding in a car, or changing places quickly can cause nausea. Also, dimming the light on your computer is a good idea, as clutter can make you dizzy and cause nausea. Try it on your phone too. Plus, it saves battery life! Avoiding triggers is an important part of helping you feel better.
Walking around or opening a window can relieve nausea by getting fresh air into your lungs.
When you can’t open the window, take in the scent. Some women find scents like lemon, mint and/or orange helpful. You can use a diffuser to release essential oils, or you can put a drop or two of essential oil on a towel or hanky to smell when you start to feel nauseous. NOTE: Essential oils are strong, so use only one or two drops. Here are 5 essential oils that you can use during your first trimester.
Beans For Pregnancy Nausea: The More You Eat, The Less You Puke
Vitamin B6 at 50 milligrams per day has been shown to be beneficial. Consult your doctor first before trying this option.
Taking your prenatal vitamin alone in the morning can cause these jittery feelings. By taking it with food or just before going to bed, it can reduce the sickness.
You may also want to ask your health care provider if you should switch to a prenatal vitamin with a low dose of iron or without iron in the first trimester because this mineral can be difficult for the digestive system. If the prenatal vitamin still makes you nauseous, ask to stop taking it until your nausea is better.
Another remedy to soothe the stomach and help with nausea is ginger. See if you can find ginger beer made with real ginger. Most supermarket ginger beer is not made with real ginger. You can steep fresh ginger in hot water to make ginger tea, or see if ginger candy or ginger glaze helps. Ginger is your friend. Whether cooked, spiced, candied, raw or in beer form, ginger is a good thing.
Tips To Help Calm Morning Sickness
Research shows that taking powdered ginger root in capsules can provide relief. Unfortunately, there’s no way to be sure how much of the active ingredient you’re getting from these ginger supplements, so talk to your doctor before taking them.
Some women find similar relief from drinking peppermint tea or chewing peppermint candies, especially after meals, or just the smell of peppermint can be helpful.

Other therapies, such as reflexology, can help you cope with illness. You’ve probably already researched this, but make sure you see a qualified doctor who has experience treating nausea during pregnancy.
Make yourself a survival kit that includes water, vitamins, acid reflux medicine, sour candies, peppermints, oils, and bowel stimulants.
If your nausea and vomiting are so bad that you can’t keep anything down, including water, juice, food, prenatal vitamins, or medications, you may have a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition characterized by nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and dehydration. Mild cases are treated with diet changes, rest and antacids. More severe cases require a hospital stay for fluids and IV nutrition. Consult your doctor if you fall into this category.
