How To Determine How Many Weeks Pregnant I Am
Knowing how many weeks pregnant you are is just counting from your last month. If your period is late, you may need an ultrasound to get a clear picture of your pregnancy. In fact, the most reliable way is to see a doctor, although it is not certain. However, for most people, you can calculate the week yourself or use an online calculator to help you.

If you have a period and want to know how many weeks you are pregnant, count the previous weeks from the first day of your period. For example, if it has been 13 weeks and 5 days since the first day of your period, that means you are only 13 weeks pregnant. You can also search online for a pregnancy calculator, which will use the first day of your last period and the length of your cycle to determine your gestational age. However, for a more accurate estimate of your distance, be sure to visit your doctor for a physical exam, a pap smear, and possibly an ultrasound. Your due date, also known as your estimated delivery date, is the estimated date your due date can begin. Your due date is usually calculated by adding 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your period, using Naegele’s rule. This may be different if you have irregular periods.
It should be noted that although the predicted day is usually calculated in 280 days, a child is born on the predicted day only 5% of the time. 2 A 2020 study published in the International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology shows several factors that can affect the length of your pregnancy, including race, height, menstrual cycles, gestational age, parity and maternal weight. Therefore, the calculation using Naegele’s law can be considered as an estimate and not an exact date. 3
To calculate how many weeks pregnant you are, our pregnancy calculator looks at the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) and compares it to today’s date. The first day of your LMP is counted as the first day of your pregnancy. This reading is based on an average cycle of 28 days. If your cycle is 28 days apart, your reading will vary accordingly.
You will find that the sonographer at your first ultrasound scan (often called a dating scan) will give you a very good idea of how many weeks into your pregnancy you are by measuring your baby from top to bottom to make a determination.
My Baby Is Small For Dates. Is Something Wrong?
If you want to calculate the estimated date by hand using Naegele’s rule, here’s how:
90% of pregnancies occur between 37 and 42 weeks. If a baby is born before 37 weeks, it is considered premature or premature. 1
This pregnancy calculator uses one of two methods to determine when your baby is likely to be born. If you complete the first day of your last period, it will take that day and add 40 weeks (assuming that you have chosen an average cycle of 28 days). If you choose a different cycle, it will add or subtract days accordingly. If you choose to calculate with an ultrasound date, the calculator will calculate your due date based on how far along you are on that day. This is likely to produce more accurate results.
The 280 day number is based on Naegele’s Law and is the most popular way of counting days. German obstetrician Franz Naegele developed the formula in 1812 and it has been cited ever since.

It is important to remember that this pregnancy calculator is meant to be a little fun and the results are speculative (like all ‘predictions’ about the future). Considering a natural birth, there is no way to know when your baby will arrive. It is important to note that only 5% of babies make it to their birthdays. 1 Most are born two weeks apart. This calculator, like the due date calculator, should only be used as a guide, to give you a little help in planning your baby’s arrival.
At 42 weeks, the birth is often called ‘post-term’. If you arrive at this time, your hospital may be able to relieve the baby. You can learn more about this and about dates in this article by the Essential Parent website.
The due date chart shows possible due dates based on data from a birth survey conducted by Spacefem.com.4 The survey is based on accurate information entered by one of the 9,000+ Moms who participated; it is not a peer reviewed scientific study. It is important to remember that the date you will be able to do it will vary depending on your age, health, ethnicity and whether you have ever given birth.

Weeks Pregnant: Symptoms, Hormones, And Baby Development
This is a question you will hear many times until you hold a child in your arms: “When are you due?” Everyone wants to know that magical day, and you’re probably more than a little curious about how far along you are, too. Your due date may be bacon (my belly will stop growing in three weeks, right?) in the week you give birth (most women give birth between weeks 37 and 41).
That said, there’s a big reason why a proper estimate is important: when there are problems. “If a woman goes into labor early, then we want to know how far along she is, as far as we can tell,” said Carol Scurfield, medical director of the Women’s Health Clinic in Winnipeg. “One week can make a big difference to a child’s health.”
Do everything you can to calculate the due date as soon as you know you are pregnant. Here’s how to do it.
By far, the most common and accurate way to calculate your estimated date is to take the first day of your last period and add 280 days (40 weeks), which is the length of the pregnancy. “Make sure the period you’re tracking is the same time of day as usual and the same amount of volatility, meaning it’s the same time,” says Scurfield. “Sometimes women bleed when they finish
