How To See Private Ig Accounts – Instagram allows users to choose whether to see likes on the platform. Learn how to hide likes on Instagram and why it’s possible.
Instagram now gives all users the ability to hide or show the number of likes on posts. This means that instead of the default numeric value you’d normally see below the image, it simply names a few users and adds “and others.” Here’s an example from four-legged fashion icon @baconthedoggers:

Hiding your Instagram likes is easy and reversible, and in some cases can have a positive impact on how you experience the app. This is how you do it.

Instagram gives you the ability to hide the number of likes on everyone else’s posts in a few steps, so you won’t see the number of likes when you scroll through the app. You can also hide likes on your posts.
1. Go to your profile and tap the hamburger icon in the upper right corner of the screen. From there, tap Settings at the top of the menu.
3. At the top of the Posts menu, you can see a toggle labeled Hide Likes and View. Flip that switch to the “on” position (it should turn blue) and you’re good to go – the like count from all your Instagram posts will now be hidden.
How To Hide Likes On Instagram (and Why It’s Even An Option)
There are two ways to hide likes on individual Instagram posts. If you post a new photo or video and don’t want the likes to show, you have the option to hide the number of likes before your post goes live.
Start creating your post as usual, but when you get to the screen where you can add a caption, tap the Advanced Settings option at the very bottom. From there you can press Hide Likes and see the counter on this post.
To disable like counters after you’ve already posted, go to your post and tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen (the same way you’d delete or archive a photo or video). From there, select Hide Likes. Voila!
Simply put, it’s for our own good. According to the statement, the company started saving likes for certain countries to see if it would “reduce pressure on people’s experience” on Instagram.
Do You Get More Instagram Followers On Private Or Public?
Research shows that we tend to equate our online success – followers, comments and likes – with our self-esteem, especially in our teenage years. In 2020, a survey of 513 teenage girls in Brazil found that 78% of them tried to hide or change a body part they didn’t like before posting a photo. Another found that 43% of teenagers with low social-emotional well-being deleted social media posts because they received too few likes. It is also worth noting that in 2019, 25% of teenagers admitted to being victims of cyberbullying.
The internet can be a really hostile place. Some people have built entire careers on Instagram, but whether you’re an influencer with a mega following or a ghost who rarely posts, a seemingly innocuous number of likes can take a toll on your mental health.
After experimenting with hiding likes, Instagram concluded that the results were “useful for some and annoying for others.” So in March 2021, Meta’s parent company announced the best of both worlds worthy of Miley Cyrus: users have the ability to hide or show their likes.
On the Instagram end, not really. You can hide likes from yourself and other users, but the app will still track likes and use them as a ranking signal for the algorithm (for more on that, here’s a deep dive into how the Instagram algorithm works today).

In short, the algorithm determines what content you see first (on stories, posts, and the Explore page). The manner in which order is determined is specific to the individual; depends what you like, watch and comment.
So a superfan who is always rooting for your brand in your comments will likely always see your posts, whether you hide your likes or not. And your Instagram crush is extremely gross, but weirdly fascinating stacking glass videos will still show up in your feed even though you have his likes hidden and you totally don’t care how many likes he has or whatever, that’s cool, you’re cool.
On a social/emotional/mental health level, hiding likes – as Instagram says – can be “helpful” or “annoying” for you. If you’re a bit obsessed with the number of likes and find that it’s affecting your ability to post content that feels authentic, try hiding your likes for a week or two. If it positively affects your experience, keep it up.
They serve as a form of social proof. People who come into contact with your brand on Instagram for the first time can immediately get a sense of how big – or local – your business is based on your like numbers. But at the end of the day, quality content, a consistent aesthetic, and thoughtful interactions with your comment community are more important than how many likes your posts get.
Will Setting Your Instagram Account Private Get You More Followers?
Instagram’s in-app analytics solution provides an overview of your account metrics, including information on how many accounts you’ve reached, the demographics of your audience, how your follower count is growing – and how many likes your posts are getting.
To see Instagram insights, you need a business or creator profile (which is free and easy to switch to: just go to settings, tap Account, then tap Change Account Type).
From your creator or business profile, go to your Instagram profile and tap the Insights button located below your bio. From there, scroll down to the “Shared Content” section, which shows the number of posts you’ve published in the last 7 days. Tap the symbol > arrows on the right. (If you haven’t posted in the last 7 days, you can still press the button).
Instagram will then show you a gallery of posts that can be filtered to show specific metrics: reach, comments and likes included.

How To Deactivate Your Instagram Business Account
You can view a private Instagram in several ways, but we recommend that you simply request to follow the account. happydancing/Shutterstock
Instagram gives us a glimpse into other people’s lives. However, since you can make your account private, you won’t always have access to the photos and videos that some people post, especially if you choose not to follow those private accounts.
Sometimes this can make sense: you can be wary of following an account without being able to see what they’re posting. So it may help to look for examples of their posts to decide whether to follow the account or not.
If you want to see a private Instagram account at any time, it’s best to just follow the account. This requires the user to approve your tracking request.
