Hold on to your hats because this property is as good as it gets! Let’s start with the land itself and the neighboring lands. The property is upland with woodland and parkland covering the entire northern and eastern boundary. The forests include aspen, oak, pine, basswood and maple. To the east, it borders 1,000 acres of county and state public land, which is very difficult for most people to access, making this property a “back door entry”. Even more exciting, the land in the county is only foot traffic, further limiting competition for that property. Another interesting fact is that Schoolcraft Township is about 3/4 mile away, where deer are bow hunted, allowing the deer to reach full maturity. This product
On Record High Lakes, Cabin Owners’ Dreams Underwater
Home – United States – Minnesota – North Central Minnesota – Hubbard County – Park Rapids – 6 Acres – Park Rapids Minnesota Homes and cabins on Shamineau Lake near Motley are threatened by rising lake waters. Buildings, boat lifts and docks were damaged, and some properties were abandoned.
When Pat Held goes to the beach in the lakeside home he’s owned for 28 years, he’s now ankle-deep in water.
Runs rely on a cement levee and eight sump pumps to keep lake water out of the house. He said he has spent about $30,000 over the summer to prevent flooding and ice jams from pushing up the coast in the winter.
“What happens every year now is lake plateaus,” Held said. “Every year it goes up and up and up.”
The Tenants Who Evicted Their Landlord
Most Minnesota rivers that flooded this spring have returned to more normal levels after snowmelt and heavy rain. But some of the state’s lakes remain historically high, damaging property, eroding shorelines and frustrating lake owners.

Above-average rainfall in recent years has been particularly challenging for lakeless lakes like Chamineau, which have no natural outlet. River-fed lakes tend to rise in the spring, but usually fall when the river level drops.
When it rains a lot, bottomless lakes keep filling up, like a bathtub, said Tim Crocker, a DNR hydrologist who lives in Little Falls.

“If it doesn’t have that loose valve, you’re going to see them higher than normal,” Crocker said.
A period of hot and dry days is needed to evaporate the lake water. But Minnesota has been trending toward wetter summers and winters over the past decade.
“We haven’t had a really severe drought in the state since 2013, and we haven’t had a moderate drought since 2015,” said state climatologist Pete Boulay. “In general, we had very wet years.”
The ground level of Chamineau Lake has been rising steadily in recent years. Since 2010 the level has tripled.

Shamineau Lake is a peaceful oasis in central Minnesota, surrounded by century-old pine forests, family cabins and a Bible camp.
The lake level has risen steadily – about 3 feet over the past nine years. The waves splashing up to the edge of the houses. Boat lifts and shore line docks. Some cabins have become uninhabitable.
“We’re at the highest level it’s ever been,” said Cindy Kevern, a member of the Lake Shamineau Improvement District, which has taxing authority to protect water quality and address the water problem.
“In everyone’s mind, they keep thinking it’s going to go down,” Kevern said. “It’s been very difficult for everyone to accept that it’s not really going down, that we’re in a wet climate cycle and our water just keeps going up and up.”

In the absence of streams or rivers to carry the water, it is the beaches that swallow the lake basins and continue to fill the traditional shoreline. Accumulation of water has increased due to the average rainfall in recent years.
Lake Shamineau residents want a solution. The lake improvement district plans to lower the lake level by a few feet by dumping some of its water into a nearby gravel pit.
That would require a permit from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and about $1.5 million, either from state grants or assessed lake owners.
Not everyone in the lake wants to help pay. But supporters of the project say they are already paying for it, expensive property repairs and loss of enjoyment of the lake.

Relief is not expected to come to Lake Shamineau this summer. Residents will vote on the district’s budget and long-term plans to improve the lake at their annual meeting in August. If the DNR signs off on the plan, construction will begin next year.
