“How to Eat Fried Worms” might be the perfect movie for an 11-year-old boy, a little cruel, a little silly, and a lot of fun. This is not an over-the-top comedy. But then again, 11-year-old boys aren’t exactly “Masterpiece Theater” material.
Based on the book by Thomas Rockwell, the film is about Billy, played by a proper and nothing, Luke Benward, a new kid at school who meets the terrifying bully Joe Gere (Adam Hicks in a special is not terrible) comes into conflict with Joe has a “death ring” he uses to kill his victims, which doesn’t kill them instantly, “but in eighth grade, so no one can prove it.”

So we spend an epic week, swinging from picnic grill to greasy spoon, blender to microwave without stirring, while Joe and his minions try to make the new guy jump again. With each worm turned, the cat, known as “Wormboy”, gains status and Joe loses face.
The Cast Of
Writer-director Bob Dolman (“The Banger Sisters”) keeps the film brisk and brisk, jumping from worm bowl to worm farm, with animated breaks between choruses.
However, the film is limited in terms of its story, themes and cast. It doesn’t have much to do with Urk, who is clearly wiser, wiser and deserves better friends than Billy, who lets the same peer pressure he’s fighting make him avoid it. Agrees to. “Fried Worms” is “hot” with more laughs, which is quite funny if you don’t consider the appearance of the worms.
