If you’ve ever searched online for sunscreen information, what you found may have left you a little confused about sunscreen. Sunscreens are designed to protect your skin from the sun’s rays, but some of the claims about them show that they can do more harm than good.
When Did Sunscreen Come Out
The decisions include everything from stating that solar panels don’t work to warning that they are downright dangerous. Some authors even suspect that the sun can cause skin cancer due to a cocktail of harmful substances. That’s enough for your liver.

But is this statement true? we have dr Jennifer Lin, Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School and Associate Director of the Melanoma Risk and Prevention Clinic at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, to help us separate fact from fiction. Below are his thoughts on what science actually says about the sun and whether it’s your skin’s friend or foe.
Are there certain sunscreens that people should avoid? I know some groups recommend avoiding certain things.
Answers. Chemicals contain chemicals that absorb the sun’s UV rays. Common ones in the US are aminobenzoic acid, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, and oxybenzone.
Oxybenzone has received a lot of bad press due to concerns that it might act as a well-known hormone blocker. Hormone blockers are drugs that can penetrate tissues and interfere with your body’s natural hormones.
Sun Protection Factor (spf): What Is The Best Sunscreen?
However, there is no evidence that oxybenzone is harmful to humans. Organizations that have raised concerns about oxybenzone usually cite studies in rats in which rats were fed oxybenzone. According to a 2017 study, it would take a person 277 years of solar energy to reach the same rate as the system’s effects in the rat study.
Even if you protect yourself from the sun with oxybenzone, you can be exposed to other products such as plastic, hair and nail polish. Currently, we do not advise our patients to avoid the sun with oxybenzone and if people choose to do so, they should be aware that the drug is found in many other products that are commonly used on a daily basis.
Answers. no These results come from studies where people who used the sun had an increased risk of developing skin cancer, including melanoma. This false association was created because people who sunbathe were some sunbathers and swimmers. In other words, it was sun exposure, not the sun itself, that increased the risk of skin cancer.
Answers. No, there is excellent research showing that sunscreen protects against all three of the most common types of cancer: prostate cancer, prostate cancer and melanoma. The sun protection you provide is directly related to UV radiation, which is linked to skin cancer. For example, in a prospective study of sun exposure, the incidence of squamous cell carcinoma decreased significantly – by about 40% over four years.

A. The manufacturers who use nanoparticles in the solar panels mentioned above. Nanoparticles are made using a process called micronization, which breaks down the larger particles. This makes the sunscreen easier to apply and, unlike most sunscreens, disappears into the skin.
I think physical blockers are a lot easier to use now because they tend to be micronized. Nanoparticles have not been shown to penetrate beyond the skin’s layer and travel into the bloodstream, meaning they are unlikely to cause any harm.
Anyone need sunscreen? I’ve heard some people say they don’t need it because they have dark skin that dances well.
A. We recommend sunscreen for the prevention of skin cancer, including the prevention of melanoma, which has been shown in both cohort studies and randomized controlled trials. Since dark-skinned patients have a lower risk of skin cancer, the use of sunscreen is not essential to prevent skin cancer. However, people looking to avoid the sun’s aging effects can benefit from sun protection habits, including sunscreen, sunblock, and sunscreen.

Does wearing sunscreen put you at risk of vitamin D deficiency? Does this mean you should skip it?
Answers. It’s true that sunscreen blocks ultraviolet B rays, the short-wavelength rays of the sun that are important for the production of vitamin D in the skin. However, since most people consume less than the recommended amount of sunlight (about a shot glass for the body and a tablespoon for the face), users are not typically vitamin D deficient. If you’re concerned that sunlight is putting you at risk of vitamin D deficiency, there’s a simple answer. Your doctor may prescribe a vitamin D supplement, such as B. 800 IU of vitamin D3 per day.
Some experts recommend spending 10 to 15 minutes in the sun each day before using the sun, but there is some debate as to whether this is really necessary given that vitamin D is found in certain foods such as oral supplements. Worrying about vitamin D deficiency should not be a reason to avoid the sun.
Answers. There is a danger of thinking that wearing sunscreen alone is enough to protect you from the sun. Many studies have shown that people who use a lot of sunscreen tend to stay in the sun for a long time, which can increase the risk of skin cancer.

. I’ve tried my fair share of sunscreens, including many of the famous Japanese brands, and today I’m sharing 7 of my favorite brands. Regardless of your condition or skin type, you can find one that suits your needs.
Whether you’re hiking or at the beach, if you plan to spend a lot of time in the sun, you need a waterproof sunscreen with UVB and UVA protection. I recommend a chemical + physical formula to get the most protection without sacrificing quality. The last thing you want in the heat is a sunburnt face!
One of my HG outdoor sunscreens that I wore during my Asia trip (think 90F/33C+ heat and humidity) and it saved me from sunburn. It has a medium milky weight that glides easily onto the skin, leaving a dewy finish. It reminds me a bit of Japanese sunscreen but with PPD42 (and PA++++ is PPD16+)!
